What are the benefits of being Active

Being more active not only means a more healthy way of life, better physique and more stamina - it also provides the ideal opportunity to have fun with friends and even gives you the chance to make new friends.

Why not take the test and find out how active you are:

  1. Do you watch less than 3.5 hours television each day?
  2. Do you walk or cycle to school?
  3. Do you play outside most days?
  4. Do you take part in sport either at school, in an after school club or at a sports club?
  5. Do you take part in activity with your family (such as walking, swimming or playing active games)?

If you scored all yes answers:
It is likely that you are already participating in enough activity - keep up the good work!

If you scored all no answers:
You are almost certainly not taking part in enough activity.  Don't worry, this website will give you advice on how you can increase your activity levels on your own, with your friends and with your family.

A mixture of yes and no answers:
You may not be enjoying all the activity opportunities available to you and may not be getting enough activity, so use this website to help you find new things to try.

Positive steps

  • Put some music on and have a dance - try and do this each evening after school
  • Help out around the house - cleaning your room can get you fit, tone muscles and burn calories
  • Run errands - posting letters in the post box, nipping to the shop for milk, gets you up and active
  • Walk or cycle to school
  • Limit your TV watching and electronic game playing
  • Get up to the park - you can use the swings and slides, or play a ball game with friends or even build a den
  • Encourage the family to go on a walk after dinner - you can make spot cards where family members have to tick off items on a list and the winner gets a prize
  • Get 8-10 hours of sleep each night
  • Go to bed at a reasonable time
  • Join Sport Unlimited!!!
